Olivia Kalahar named Hale Teacher of the Year

Olivia Kalahar is the 2025-2026 Hale High School Teacher of the Year!

Olivia started teaching algebra at Hale three years ago and has served as the cheer coach for two years. Her career in education began as a substitute teacher in California before moving to Oklahoma. We asked her a few questions to learn more about her and her time in Tulsa Public Schools.

What is your favorite thing about your work?

My favorite thing about my work is that even though it is the same thing every day, it also isn’t at the same time. I like how I must adapt to a different set of students every year and that it forces me to constantly improve as a teacher. I love the busyness of teaching and having to wear so many different hats.

What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?

One thing that I am passionate about outside of teaching is volunteering with sixth grade girls at my church and playing in a pickleball league!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

I think some schools in the district get a bad rap for whatever reason and I know that sometimes happens to Hale, but the people I work with are some of the greatest I have ever met. The administration is supportive and there for you, and the students are sweet, hardworking, and want to succeed. Making the move to Oklahoma and to Hale has been one of the best decisions I have made, and I am so excited and grateful to be a part of team that will continue to support me along the way.
